GOAL NO. 7: CLEAN AND AFFORDABLE ENERGY
With the global carbon dioxide emissions increasing by forty-six percent since 1990, it is absolutely crucial that we start using clean yet affordable energy sources before it is simply too late. Many countries, especially China and the US, rely heavily on fossil fuels as a source of energy. But these fuels such as coal, oil and gas contribute to global warming by giving off high levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Along with this, they are unrenewable and therefore unsustainable as eventually they will run out. It is due to these reasons that as a globe we must opt out for sustainable alternatives such as solar and wind power. Not only are they renewable, as there will always be wind and the sun, but they are also much cheaper in the long term and won't harm the environment or contribute to climate change. To completely change energy sources is a very difficult process, however, clean and affordable energy will be made a lot easier to achieve through targets. These targets include considerably increasing the amount of renewable energy part of the global energy mix and ensuring general access to dependable, affordable and up-to-date energy utilities. By changing our current energy sources to clean and affordable alternatives we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions greatly while efficiently managing our environment along with its resources. |
