GOAL NO.6 : CLEAN WATER & SANITATION
The sixth global goal for sustainable development is to ensure clean water and sanitation for everyone. With a possible global water crisis in the near future, this goal is especially significant. Although water is absolutely essential to survival, 1 out of every 10 people/ 663 million people lack access to safe and clean water. In addition to this one third of the world's population does not have access to a toilet, that is less people than those who have access to a mobile phone. Targets to help achieve this goal include improving water quality and achieving sufficient and fair access to clean, safe water and hygiene for everyone by 2030. Not only will this goal save the 500,000 children who die from diarrhoea each year (caused by poor sanitation and unsafe water), but it will also ensure clean freshwater for many more generations to come by reducing water pollution and efficiently managing all water resources. This issue effects every individual no matter where you live because the mismanagement of water and lack of sanitation in one part of the world brings consequences to the entire world, whether it be in the form of polluted water or no freshwater left at all. Therefore, global contribution and participation is required to ensure clean water and sanitation for everyone. |
